Pahokee Restoration (1135)

Construction (C)

Congressional Districts: 17, 18, 20, 21

This study is authorized by Section 1135, of the 1990 Water Resources Development Act. The city of Pahokee is within Palm Beach County, and is approximately 100 miles north of Miami. Pahokee, Florida is located in South Florida, on the eastern shore of Lake Okeechobee. The potential area for the project spans approximately 15 miles. An opportunity exists to restore the currently degraded area and well as protect the lake’s ecosystem as a resource. This could occur as beneficial use through creation of barrier islands to protect the shoreline habitat during storms as well as allow recreational use and outreach, create wetland habitat (providing natural ecosystems to provide incidental water quality benefits and retain suspended solids) and create hardground habitat.
