The Intracoastal Waterway (IWW) project authorizes a channel 12 feet deep by 125 feet wide from Jacksonville, Florida south to Fort Pierce, Florida, and a channel 10 feet deep by 125 feet wide from Ft. Pierce, Florida south to Miami, Florida. The length of project is approximately 349 miles running from the St. Johns River in northeast Florida southward along the east coast to Miami, Florida.

A Memorandum of Agreement with the Florida Inland Navigation District (FIND) to contribute funds for the Operation and Maintenance (O&M) of both the IWW and Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway (AIWW) was executed on 3 September 1997. Since that date, FIND has provided over $60,000,000 for the O&M of the IWW and AIWW.
A construction contract was awarded for DMMA O-7, located in Martin County, Florida in November 2016 and will be complete in July 2018. Construction of this DMMA was with 100% Contributed Funds from FIND. O&M dredging was complete in December 2017 for the Bakers Haulover reach of the IWW, funded with 100% Federal funding. Other efforts that are underway in FY 2018 include O&M dredging of approximately 400k cubic yards of material from the IWW Volusia reach, O&M dredging of approximately 75k cubic yards of material from the Broward Reach 1, dredging of approximately 50k cubic yards of material from the Crossroads reach of the IWW and construction of an additional DMMA in Martin County which will utilize 100% contributed funds from FIND. Work for all of these efforts will occur in FY 2018.
