4. STATUS

Lee County beaches were impacted from Hurricane Irma. The project received FCCE funding from the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018, and construction was completed in June 2019n the Gasparilla Island segment. USACE was also able to work closely with Lee County to incorporate additional non-federal sand placement on an important park facility resulting in mitigation of erosion risk, increased recreational and economic benefits, and cost savings to federal, state and local partners. The Assistant Secretary of the Army (Civil Works) approved the Final Integrated Section 934 Report and Environmental Assessment in 2019 which allowed for the federal participation in the Gasparilla Island segment to be extended to 2056. The Corps is preparing a Project Partnership Agreement (PPA) Amendment to incorporate the extension.

No current planning is underway for the Captiva Island for Estero Island segments.
