1. DESCRIPTION

The Intracoastal Waterway (IWW) project authorizes a channel 12 feet deep by 125 feet wide from Jacksonville, Florida south to Fort Pierce, Florida, and a channel 10 feet deep by 125 feet wide from Ft. Pierce, Florida south to Miami, Florida. The length of project is approximately 349 miles running from the St. Johns River in northeast Florida southward along the east coast to Miami, Florida.

4. STATUS

A Memorandum of Agreement with the Florida Inland Navigation District (FIND) to contribute funds for the Operation and Maintenance (O&M) of both the IWW and Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway (AIWW) was executed on 3 September 1997. Since that date, FIND has provided over $65,000,000 for the O&M of the IWW and AIWW.

Construction of DMMA O-7, located in Martin County, Florida was completed in July 2018. Construction of this DMMA was with 100% Contributed Funds from FIND.  O&M dredging was completed in February 2019 within the IWW Volusia Reach. Approximately 600K cubic yards of material was removed from within the IWW Federal channel and Ponce Inlet Federal channel. An O&M contract for the IWW Broward Reach 1 was awarded in January 2019 which will remove approximately 30K cubic yards of material from the IWW. In April 2019 an O&M dredging contract will be advertised for the IWW Matanzas reach, where approximately 300K cubic yards of material will be dredged from the IWW and placed on a County beach in St. Johns County, Florida. An additional DMMA will be advertised for construction the end of FY 2019 and will be funded 100% with FIND Contributed Funds.
