Public meeting scheduled to discuss preliminary ecological modeling results for Jacksonville Harbor Navigation Deepening Study

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Jacksonville District will host a public meeting on the Jacksonville Harbor Navigation Deepening Study. The meeting will be held on Thursday, October 25th at 7:00 p.m. at the Jacksonville Port Authority Cruise Terminal, 9810 August Dr. Jacksonville, Fla.
The purpose of the meeting is to provide stakeholders with an opportunity to discuss the preliminary results of the ecological models that are being used for this study. These models are considered to be a critical component of this effort, and are being used to help assess potential effects that proposed deepening may have on the St. Johns River ecosystem.
The Jacksonville District is conducting a study to increase the depth of the existing federal channel along the St. Johns River from its current project depth of 40-feet to a maximum depth of 50-feet. The study is focused on the portion of the harbor up to river mile 13. The study will evaluate navigation concerns and provide recommendations for investigating navigation improvements.
