  • The Corps of Engineers announces a new programmatic Biological Opinion (JaxBo)

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District Regulatory Division, received a new Programmatic Biological Opinion (PBO), referred to as ‘JaxBO,’ from the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) to address consultation requirements for certain activities that may affect federally listed threatened and endangered species occurring throughout the State of Florida, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. JaxBo was issued Nov. 20.

  • Sunny Isles Beach renourishment starts soon

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District announces that construction starts soon for the Sunny Isles Beach renourishment project. The $8.6 million project is part of the Miami-Dade County Beach Erosion Control and Hurricane Protection Project. The Corps’ contractor, Eastman Aggregate Enterprises, LLC of Lake Worth, Florida, will place approximately 140,000 cubic yards of beach-quality sand from an upland sand mine on more than 4,400 feet of critically eroded shoreline in two locations, including both sides of the Newport Pier and at the north end of the city. Eastman Aggregates will truck-haul sand to Sunny Isles from the Vulcan Materials Witherspoon Sand Mine, located in Moore Haven, southwest of Lake Okeechobee.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District announced it has authority to issue alternative/emergency permitting procedures in the Antilles in response to conditions resulting from Hurricane Maria, including heavy damage in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, including St. Croix, St. John, St. Thomas and other surrounding minor islands.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Miami-Dade County and the City of Sunny Isles Beach will host a public meeting August 31 at 6 p.m. for the Sunny Isles Beach renourishment project, part of the Miami-Dade County Beach Erosion Control and Hurricane Protection Project.

  • Corps awards contract for Sunny Isles Beach renourishment, public meeting August 31

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District awarded a contract on August 9 to Eastman Aggregate Enterprises, LLC of Lake Worth, Florida, for $8,605,564.33, for the Sunny Isles Beach shoreline renourishment project, part of the Miami-Dade County Beach Erosion Control and Hurricane Protection Project. Eastman Aggregate will renourish two areas of critically eroded areas of shoreline in Sunny Isles Beach with 140,000 cubic yards of beach-quality sand truck-hauled from an upland sand mine. A public meeting is scheduled for August 31.

  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers issues permit authorization for construction of State Road 7 Extension in Palm Beach County

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District issued a Department of the Army (DA) permit to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), District 4 and the County of Palm Beach for the construction of a new roadway extension of State Road (SR) 7 from 60th Street North to Northlake Boulevard in Palm Beach County. The permit was issued on July 20.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District issued a permit authorization to the City of St. Petersburg for construction of the New Pier in St. Petersburg. The New Pier will be located within the waters of Tampa Bay at 800 2nd Avenue NE, St. Petersburg, Pinellas County, Florida.
