JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (June 3, 2011) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District has closed the St. Lucie South Campground Boat Ramp due to continuing declines in water surface stages in Lake Okeechobee and the Okeechobee Waterway (OWW). The ramp will reopen when water levels increase enough to enable safe use.

Mariners are strongly advised to monitor declining lake levels and corresponding reductions in available vessel draft for both Route 1 and Route 2.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the leading provider of recreation on federally-managed lands in the United States and one of the founding members of the National Water Safety Congress, is committed to promoting water safety practices.

The Corps wants you to be safe and remember to check your safety equipment before water activities and always wear your life jacket.
