• Jacksonville District signs Feasibility Cost Share Agreement for the St. Augustine, Back Bay Coastal Storm Risk Management Feasibility Study

    JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Col. James Booth of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District commander and Mayor Nancy Sikes-Kline of the City of St. Augustine officially marked the start of a comprehensive study to address ongoing coastal flooding within the city limits.

    The Jacksonville District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) will hold a two-day planning charrette meeting for the Central and South Florida (C&SF) Flood Resiliency Study on Jan. 11-12 in Fort Lauderdale. Options for virtual and in-person attendance will be provided.

  • USACE Increases Lake Okeechobee releases to Caloosahatchee

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Jacksonville District will increase releases from Lake Okeechobee to the Caloosahatchee Estuary from the W.P. Franklin Lock and Dam (S-79) at a seven-day average pulse release of 2,000 cubic feet per second beginning Saturday, Dec. 3. No lake releases are currently planned for the St. Lucie Estuary.
  • USACE announces two Public NEPA Scoping Meetings on Nov. 28 and extends public comment on New C&SF Flood Resiliency Study to Dec. 7

    USACE invites the participation of Federal and state agencies, Native American Tribes, local agencies, and interested stakeholders in providing comments and identifying any issues or concerns. Two virtual Public NEPA Scoping Meetings will be held on Monday, November 28. The first will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and the second will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The meetings will include a short presentation about the study and the NEPA process, followed by a comment period to receive feedback on the flood risk problems, including what is important to stakeholders when we look at the problems and potential solutions. The NEPA Scoping comment period is being extended through Wednesday December 7, 2022, to allow additional time due to the effects of Hurricane Nichole and the upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday.
  • USACE Begins Lake Okeechobee Releases to Caloosahatchee

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Jacksonville District will resume releases from Lake Okeechobee to the Caloosahatchee Estuary from the W.P. Franklin Lock and Dam (S-79) at a fourteen-day average pulse release of 1,200 cubic feet per second beginning Saturday, Nov. 19. No lake releases are planned for the St. Lucie Estuary.
  • USACE, Miami-Dade to host Back Bay Study charrette, public meeting

    USACE and Miami-Dade County will host a charrette Nov. 14-18, including a public meeting Monday, Nov. 14, for the re-initiation of the Miami-Dade Back Bay Coastal Storm Risk Management Feasibility Study. Working teams will conduct analysis and planning beginning with the study's 2021 recommended plan as a starting point. Public participation and input is highly desired and encouraged; the Nov. 14 public meeting will take place from 6-8 p.m. at Miami-Dade College.
