A Public Notice is the primary method of advising interested agencies and the general public of proposed activities requiring a Standard Permit from the Corps of Engineers or of other important information concerning the Corps of Engineers Regulatory program. Some public notices will solicit comments and information while others are just informational. If the public notice includes a comment period, it will generally be open for 15 to 30 days, depending on the complexity of the subject matter of the public notice. If the situation calls for it, there may be an occasion where a comment period is extended beyond 30 days.
The Jacksonville District currently has five categories of public notices as described below. Each category provides the links to each public notice with drawings in PDF format.
- Florida - This includes all public notices for projects being reviewed for Standard Permits within the State of Florida.
- Antilles - This includes all public notices for projects being reviewed for Standard Permits within the Antilles area (this includes Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands).
- Tropical Storms & Other Emergencies - These public notices provide information on procedures for emergency permitting requirements due to specific tropical storm events or other emergency situations.
- Special Issues - These are public notices that involve the Regulatory program but which are generally not limited to one particular geographic area. These would include public notices for the establishment or modification of Restricted Areas/Danger Zones, re-issuance of General Permits or Nationwide Permits, changes to guidance and policies, etc.
- Administrative Penalty Public Notices - These public notices provide information associated with Administrative Penalty. An Administrative Penalty can be assessed to address violations associated with issued Department of the Army permits. Violations are evaluated for compliance importance and environmental importance.
You may mail your comments on a public notice to the Project Manager noted in the document to Post Office Box 4970, Jacksonville, Florida 32232-0019. Otherwise, please provide comments as directed within the public notice.
Information on receiving Public Notice notification emails
As of May 2007, the Jacksonville District Regulatory Division no longer mails paper copies of public notices, except on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of this office. Instead, public notices are available for viewing through links on this page.
If you wish to have your e-mail address added to one or more of the five public notice category mailing lists we currently maintain, please send your request to Melinda Witgenstein. Be sure to specify which list(s) you want to be included on.
