Military Munitions Response Program

Culebra

Culebra IslandDuring the period from 1903 through 1975, Culebra Island and adjacent islands and cays in Puerto Rico were used by the U.S. Navy for military maneuvers and range training. Now, following extensive investigations and archival records searches, surface clearance of munitions and explosives of concern is under way on Cerro Balcon, Isla Culebrita and additional cays. Work is conducted with full coordination and cooperation by our local partner, the Puerto Rico Environmental Quality Board, as well as other federal and local government agencies. Further surface clearance of munitions and explosives of concern will be conducted on other parts of Culebra and other surrounding cays.

Surface clearance of munitions and explosives of concern is being conducted on Cerro Balcon, Isla Culebrita and additional cays.
