Phase I work consisted of dredging approximately 37,000 cubic yards of sand between 9th Avenue Bridge and Manatee Avenue Bridge. Dredged material was dewatered at the Old City Hall site in Bradenton, Florida. The contract for the Phase I dredging effort was awarded June 2011 and construction completed October 2012. The initial Phase II clearing and snagging was conducted in June 2014. The follow-up of Phase II clearing and snagging was conducted in January 2016. The portion of Phase III which included the installation of a vertical sheet pile wall along the 15,500 foot long section of the East Branch of Cedar Hammock and Wares Creek was awarded January 2013 and construction completed February 2015. The portion of Phase III which included widening the existing channel to a trapezoidal grass-lined channel was awarded September 2013. The original contract was terminated due to lack of competence and progress by contractor on the project site in August 2014. The Corps was tendered a new construction contractor from the Surety company of the terminated contractor and work on Phase III widening was reinitiated August 2015. Work on the original Phase III widening was completed in December 2015, and additional work added via modification to the contract was completed in April of 2016. The project was turned over to the non-Federal sponsor for Operation and Maintenance in September of 2016.
